SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS
Dorchester Neighborhood Service Center
Assist in the implementation of program activities for children (K2-6th grade) that promote educational enrichment and development, self-awareness and team building amongst their peers. Supervise groups of children while adhering to the rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the center and the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Maintain accurate and current attendance logs and head counts on all children at all times. Maintain in/out door ratios, and insure proper coverage and low counselor/student ratios wherever possible. Maintain injury/incident logs and continually assess potential hazards or patterns that may require adjustments to items, staffing or operating procedures. Model appropriate and effective communication and conflict resolution skills with students, parents, and co-workers. Responsible for the upkeep of all program spaces and property. Attend all staff meetings and trainings and actively pursue objectives on individual professional development plan. Perform other related duties as required.
Must meet the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) qualifications for Group Leader and 102CMR 7.32( c ). Current First Aid and CPR certifications, or the willingness to obtain the certifications required. Must have proven ability to keep accurate written records and documentation. Must pass a CORI check. Effective communication skills required. Must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED and at least 6 months experience working with school age children including 3 months of supervised experience at a school age child care program; or have 9 months experience with school age children including 3 months supervised experience at a school age child care program. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
Please note: this position is temporary through September 2, 2010. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of additional funding.
