LEAD TEACHERS
Head Start and Children's Services - Citywide
Responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Education Component objectives for the Head Start Performance Standards. Provide Head Start children with a nurturing, safe, and healthy environment to help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development in relationship to the overall goal of social competency. Develop activities and strategies involving parents in the educational aspects of the program to enhance their roles as the principle influence on the children’s education and development. Collaborate with the Education Supervisor to provide training, support, and feedback to teaching staff and volunteers. Regularly assess teaching team progress and curriculum plans to ensure quality programming. Understand the Head Start Performance Standards, develop an individualized career-development plan with the Education Supervisor, and take at least one accredited course or workshop annually. Attend to the physical and environmental needs of the children to ensure their growth and well-being. Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field, with one or more years of experience with pre-school children required. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred. Must have good interpersonal skills. Bilingual skills preferred. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with children and families of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
